Description
This handsome flint long rifle would look just as good over the fireplace as it would at the shooting range. This contemporary rifle was patterned after the rifles produced in Sunbury, Pennsylvania in the late 18th and early 19th Centuries. It falls into the "Golden Age" era of long rifles and as such is covered with embellishments like inlays, engraving, and carving.
The curly maple stock is in near perfect condition with only a few minor handling marks. Numerous inlays are found on the wrist and forearm of the stock and all are very nicely executed. A handsome brass patch box has been expertly mortised into the butt. The other side of the butt stock features some light carving which was copied from an original rifle made by John Dreisbach in the late 18th Century.
The lock is a modified Jim Chambers "Siler" lock; meaning that the geometry is perfect with a reliable spark. The barrel is .45 caliber with a nice browned finish to match the lock. The bore is near mint with no rust or pitting.
This lightweight, well balanced rifle is being offered for less than the cost of a new poorly built, chunky Italian reproduction; making it a no-brainer for any shooter or reenactor.
