Description
This rare M1817 Common Rifle is one of less than 500 that was converted to percussion via the "cone-in-barrel" or "Belgian" conversion by the state of New Hampshire in the 1850's according to George Moller's
American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume III: Flintlock Alterations and Muzzleloading Percussion Shoulder Arms, 1840-1865.
This rifle is in vert good, shootable condition - it's former owner actually used to compete with it in N-SSA matches. It was built by Nathanial Starr and features good, legible lock plate markings along with a textured brown patina. The hammer holds solid on both full and half cock.
The stock is excellent with no cracks or chips, and nice crisp corners without any evidence of sanding or refinishing.
The barrel is full length and the "bolster" area of the bolster is very good with out any major pitting or erosion; like so many other cone-in-barrel converted guns.
The bore is good with sharp rifling and no major rust or pitting.
The furniture is all original and the ram rod is full length.
